When we first looked at this house while house-hunting, the very first thing that I noticed that HAD TO GO was this awful laminate flooring in the guest bathroom. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – with no apologies – laminate flooring in a bathroom is a BAD idea. I don’t know how old this flooring was, but it was already buckling around the toilet. Not to mention, I do have three little boys, and laminate has a way of absorbing odors, if you know what I mean.
So this picture was taken the day that we first stepped foot into this house. Even while taking the picture I can remember thinking, ‘Dang.’
The toilet quickly needed to be replaced, so we figured that we might as well do the floor while we’re at it. We went ahead and paid our favorite tile guys to do it because it was so worth it. They finished it in a half a day when it would have flipped my life upside down for an entire weekend and probably cost the same in supplies and mistakes.
After the tile was in I had to decide on a color. I thought I really wanted a blue or teal color, but when I tested it I just wasn’t feeling it. So I went with an orangey clay color and wasn’t sure at first. But then I sealed the tile, bringing out the color in the travertine a little better…
(it dried and wasn’t shiny anymore)
…and added pictures, a standing cabinet, and curtains, and now I LOVE it! For me that’s one of the really exciting things about decorating. You don’t really know if it’s all going to work out, but you take risks that sometimes work and sometimes don’t. Or sometimes you just have to make them work by trial and error. (Remember that Laugh sign?)
But if I never took risks, I’d never be fully satisfied with my house.
The next thing I need to do to this bathroom is get rid of the gold doorknob and gold shower stuff. I feel a spray paint project coming on.
