High Ceiling Curtains - HELP!!!!

Okay, y'all, now's your chance to have some input in my home decorating. I'm totally at a loss. Forgive my crappy cell phone picture.  I still can't find my camera after the move, and I'm seriously having panic attacks about that.

Anywho, I have these ridiculously high windows, and I have no idea how to dress them. I absolutely love the light they bring in and the beautiful view of the backyard. The large windows really do make the backyard a lovely spot at which to gaze and daydream and say to myself, 'Wow, I love my house (but what do I do with these really high windows).'

I considered Roman shades, both fabric and bamboo, like these...

....but I still want the romance of long, flowy, curtains like these....

But they just seem so ridiculously long, don't they?  To me it borders on downright silly unless if you're in one uh them thar fancy houses.

So then I saw this, and these people just totally ignore putting something in the top windows, which is what I want to do, but I don't know if that's an appropriate rule to break.  And if I hang curtains, can I hang them in between the top and the bottom windows?

So what do you think?  Can I hang them in between the top and bottom?

  1. I'd go with the bamboo on the bottom and then floor to ceiling for the fabric curtains.

  2. I like the floor to ceiling curtains. That's how my entire house is. Curtain rod close to the ceiling, curtains gathered on the floor :)

  3. I would go with sheers, hung inside the top windows with tension rods, then Roman shades below.

  4. If you are going to do curtains do them floor to ceiling. If you love the light and are using them more to dress the window than to close for privacy, I think the curtains would be really nice. Also, I think the curtains hung high would unify it like the last pic you posted. There are actually multiple windows there but the way they hung the curtains unifies it instead of making it look like lots of different boxes of light. Just my opinion. I also love roman shades. Wait was one of the options both of them? lol

  5. Thanks, y'all! I think I am going to go with floor to ceiling, although I'm a little scared. It's kind of bold...like wearing bright red lipstick. It only looks good when properly accessorized. I hope I can pull it off!

  6. i like leaving the top window open and then having the curtains just on the long window. thats my vote.

  7. My thought is similar to some of these already mentioned, but I like the idea of either long and flowy, or both a long and flowy from top to bottom and a roman shade on the bottom section! I think letting that natural light in at the top would be awesome. Light like that makes a home feel so light and happy!
