The Tiger is 3

Three years ago today I gave birth to my sweet little Tiger.  It was a hard day and a difficult transition into being a family of four (much harder than the transition to being a family of five), but I would do it all over again to get my sweet Levi.

Levi, you're an amazing person.  Your determination and fierceness will take you far in life.  You have no fear and are surprisingly strong for your age.  You're a force to be reckoned with!  I love you more each day, and I can't get enough of your infectious laugh and sugary-sweet smile.  You make my heart melt.  Thanks for the joy you bring to my world.  Happy birthday, sweet boy.

A Good Day

This will be a short post because Michael gave me the house to myself for about an hour so I'm going to clean fast and furiously, but I wanted to share about my fantastic day.

So I really love movies, but Michael doesn't exactly share my passion. So when we go out on dates, we rarely end up seeing them.  And something I always said I'd do when both the older boys started school was see movies again while they were in school.  Now, nearly 6 months later, I finally did.

I had a goal of seeing all of the Academy Award best picture nominees before the awards show, but I just now saw the first one....oh wait, the second (forgot that Toy Story 3 was up for best picture, and of course I've seen that one about a hundred times now).  So I went to the 11:05AM showing of The King's Speech, and Isaac and I were the only ones there.  (Awesome movie, by the way.  Colin Firth is brilliant!)

I think I might be addicted to doing that now.  LOVE IT!  I didn't feel pathetic about going to the movies by myself in the least.  It was fabulous!  I loved having the theatre all to myself.  I could nurse Isaac at will, and if he cried (which he didn't really) it wouldn't bother anyone.  I felt so, what's the word, badass, like, "That's right; y'all are going to play this movie just for me, and I'm only paying five bucks, suckas."  Hehe.

So then I went and bought a bunch of nursing shirts, which I always thought were overrated, but OMG, they're not!  Love them!  Anyway, that was my fabulous day.  I was due for one.  How 'bout you?

Review: Spiral Diner and Bakery

Going out to eat whist (is that word coming to the end of its trendiness...maybe) on a diet is nearly impossible without totally blowing it.  So when we were trying to decide where to go for our Valentine's date, Michael found an awesome vegan place called Spiral Diner and Bakery in Fort Worth in the hospital district (there's one in Oak Cliff, too).

I normally shy away from vegan places because I'm afraid they're going to judge me.  As I was walking from the parking lot to the restaurant I realized I had a leather purse and was wearing leather boots [[dang it!!]].  But I swear, the people that worked there were the nicest, friendliest, most helpful restaurant staff. They even took Michael's dozens of vegan questions in stride and with a sense of humor.

The atmosphere was casual and had a very laid back vibe.  You seat yourself; a waiter takes your order; you get your own drinks, but they bring your food; and you pay at the front.

The food was awesome.  For an appetizer we had a portobello quesadilla.  It was ridiculously good.  I don't know what they make their fake cheese out of, but you could have fooled me!  It was delicious, filling, and so healthy.  I loved the whole wheat tortilla it was on.  Delicious!

I had a veggie wrap for dinner:

It was pretty good for what it was, but honestly, I probably would ask them to leave out the sweet potatoes next time.  I didn't like the sweetness, but I should have read the name of the plate again.

Michael got a hot plate for dinner:

I believe he loved it.  It was very filling, and he took half of it home and ate it the next day.  He had never had quinoa before and was pleasantly surprised.

For dessert we got a chocolate chip cookie (for me), an oatmeal cranberry cookie (for him), and a chocolate peanut butter cup (for each of us).  They were all unbelievably good.  ALL of the sweets looked amazing.  I think I will go back again just for coffee and desserts.  YUMMM!

So we ended up using most of our Weight Watchers points on the appetizer and desserts, but it wasn't bad.  The only bad part of eating here is that they don't list their nutrition information, so we don't really know how many points we ate.  We could only guess.  All in all, though, we felt pretty good about what we ate.

I give two thumbs up to this place.  We will definitely be back.

Back to the Gym

So this morning I went back to the gym for the first time since August!  I quit working out while I was pregnant because I had absolutely no energy for it.  I used to judgmentally tell people, "Well, working out will give you more energy.  You just have to get over that initial hump."  Well, let me just admit that that never happened (even though it did with my second pregnancy).

After being absent from the fitness world for so long, I was thrilled to be back.  During my fitness hiatus, however, my gym was remodeled.  So before I left this morning I asked Michael if there was anything that was different about the gym that I needed to know so that I didn't look like a newb.  He immediately said no, and after frantically looking for my gym membership card and dusting the cobwebs off of it, I was off.

So I got there and noticed keypads and scanners at the front desk.  I curiously looked at them and proceeded to try to scan my card with the scanner, like a caveman with a lighter.  The guy at the front desk saw my distress and said, "Oh, you haven't been here in a long time.  You still have a card."  Then he and the girl there started trying to remember how to check someone in with a card.  The scanner was evidently a fingerprint scanner.  So they got me all set up with a fingerprint and number for next time.  While they were doing that I tried to explain my absence, and they clearly couldn't care any less.  I was so embarrassed, but oh well.

Working out in the early morning is something that I love, but I was worried it wouldn't be possible, having a newborn and all.  But I have a plan that seems like it will work pretty well.  Here's my plan: go to sleep really early.  ;)  Last night I took the baby to bed at 8:30, nursed him, and we ended up asleep by around 9:15 or so.  Then I nursed him while I was sleeping instead of getting up to nurse him.  It worked out pretty well.  I'm very hopeful about getting back in shape pretty soon.  I can't wait, actually.

Week one of Weight Watchers was a success, too.  I lost 2 pounds.  I wanted to lose more, but I'm thinking that slow and steady wins the race and that I shouldn't get impatient.

Arlington Mama Wants Her Body Back

I am VERY ready to be back in shape (and not keep hiding from cameras and deleting pics of myself).

Today I joined Weight Watchers Online, and I'm very hopeful.  If you have tried WW before but haven't recently, they've changed their program a lot.  I LOVE it!  It actually encourages healthy eating and eating more whole foods instead of processed foods.  The points are also not based on calories, fiber, and fat anymore.  Instead they're based on fat, carbs, protein, and fiber.  I think that's much better.

And here's the best part: every fruit and veggie is free!  In the past, I would choose say a handful of pretzels over an apple because they were the same amount of points.  But now, I choose the fruit every time.

So I plan on tracking my weight loss here on my blog in the right side bar, if you're interested.  I'll let you know how the diet is going and if I have any good recipes to share.  I have my one month post-partum checkup tomorrow with my OB, and I'm anxious to see when he tells me that I can start working out again.  I'm very anxious to get back into the gym.  

I also think that breastfeeding will be on my side this time around.  With Levi I didn't start dieting until around 8-10 months post-partum because I didn't want to see a dip in my milk supply, as I had just barely enough for him.  But with Isaac, I have a great supply and don't have to worry about it dipping, so dieting and working out shouldn't affect him at all.  I'm thrilled about that.

So here I go!  I feel like I'm on the start of an adventure because I'm so excited about it.  :-P  I'm hoping that I'll be back in my old jeans by the summer time!
